When buying a laptop there are many things to consider.
1.The ports. You should make sure that laptop has lots of USB ports for devices such as printer, mouse, flash drive, digital camera, etc. If your laptop does not come with many USB ports, you will need an USB hub. If you plan to connect your laptop to a TV, you will need an s-video port.
2. CD/DVD. Most of laptops come with a CD writerDVD reader drive. If you want to copy DVDs, you will need a DVD writer drive. At this time the maximum speed for burning a DVD is 16X.
3. The hard drive. The speed of hard drive is measured in rpm or Rotations per Minute. Try to find a laptop that has 4200rpm or 5400rpm. A laptop with 40 Gigabytes is sufficient for an average person.
4. The memory. Your laptop should have at least 1 GB of memory. However, you can get a notebook with 512 MB and work with Windows XP. You should avoid a laptop with only 256 MB of memory.
5. The processor. You can choose between Intel and AMD. At the moment, Intel has the best processor for a laptop called the Core 2 Duo. The speed of processors is measured in Gigahertz. The bigger the number, the faster the processor is. There are also Dual-Core processors. It means they can process two things at the same time. As a result, the power of the processor is doubled.
6. Size. You should choose a smaller screen if you carry your laptop a lot. Typically a 14.1 inch screen is considered small. A 17 inch screen is considered big. A 17 inch screen is heavier and use up more battery life. You can get a 15 inch or a 15.4 inch.
7. The warranty. Each laptop computer should come with one year warranty from the manufacturer covering only defective equipment. You can also get an extended warrantycovering any accidents you may have.
8. The brand. Average brand of laptop is Dell, HP, Gateway, Acer and Compaq. The better brand of laptops is Sony, Toshiba, Alienware and IBM-Lenovo.
9. Also you must try buy a laptop which is in your price range.

Technology in the classroom in todays world
Six years ago, the Internet was limited both in what it could do and in who used it. Many people had heard the word but did not have a clue what it was. Today, most teachers have not only been exposed to the Internet but also have access at home or at school. In fact, a large number of schools are being retrofitted to place the Internet in every classroom. Even more exciting than this is the newest technology: Wireless. A school can purchase a 'Portable Classroom'. This consists of laptops networked together, allowing students to work at their desks WITHOUT wires. If the laptops are networked to a printer, students can print from their personal computer to the classroom printer. Imagine the possibilities!
Technology is having an ever growing impact in classrooms and indeed colleges and universities around the world today. Children are growing up surrounded by a vast amount of new technology from interactive whiteboards to computer games and online educational videos and activities. Children have so much access to the Internet, mobile phones, nintendo`s etc which makes it easy for them to adapt to these technologies been used to increase their learning capabilities

The influence of technology on young children
In todays society more and more young children are turning to technology for all their needs in their everyday lives. in the past 10 years many things have changed when it comes to the availability of computers, video games, nintendo`s etc. Children today seem to be addicted to, and get engrossed in virtual video games. But we must ask ourselfthe question is all this really helping the younger generaion of children or is it posing a threat to them? Hours of sitting in tellys and the likes with lack of exercise surely cant be healthy?
Technology has had many effects on children, some good, others not so good. In either case society has to adapt to the fact technology is going to continue to grow and be a staple in a child's life. It is not going to go away anytime soon, if anything it will become a larger influence in their lives. Some of the negative effects of technology on children:
In days past children spent their days running around the neighborhood, driving bicycles to the store for ice cream. Video games were played in the form of "cops and robbers" and other children's games out in the backyard. Life was more carefree and kids didn't have any electronic toys to keep them occupied. Additionally parents didn't have to worry about sending their kids out to play.
Technology has given extended news in a variety of mediums, with heightened exposure to negativity because it is available 24/7. Today the media thrives on generating fear and people are constantly bombarded with the negatives in society.
There is alo a plus side to children growing up in a world surrounded by technology. They may get a good headstart with their learning from home, in today`s society many people depend on technology as its such a big part of our lives. From this the fact that children are growing up in this kind of environment may stand to them greatly in the long run. Children have quick and easy access to information through the internet and also they can learn greatly from the use of modern day technology.
Overall, in todays world technology may be useful and have many positive effects for young children aswell as some of the negative effects which may follow.

Christmas hols!!!
As the first semester of our college year comes to an end im greatly looking forward to going home for the holidays! We`re all rushing to get our c.a`s handed in on time and whatnot. Christmas is my favourite time of year as im looking forward to spending some time at home with my family as well as seeing all my old friends. Christmas up in Dublin is also lovely as the city is lit up with beautiful lights. We finish up in college on the 11th of December which gives us all plently of time to get al our shopping done. There`s a nice atmosphere around the college as the Christmas spirit sets in!
7Up on ice!
For my friends 19th birthday we all decided to go ice- skating in the RDS. It was lots of fun, we went on a Tuesday night and didn't realise that there was a silent disco on every Tuesday night. We were all given headphones and there was two different d.j`s in which you could tune into whatever one you prefer ed to listen to. During the one hour session the two d.j`s played the mockarena and asked everybody skating to go into the centre of the ice and do the dance movements. We were told that if we did it successfully we would get a free hour skating on the ice. We all managed to do it and were allowed to stay for the extra hour, it was loads of fun and i`d recommend going to anyone who has not been yet as its a nice way to spend the evening and isn`t too expensive. Happy skating!
College drama/ nights out!
When we go to college we face a lot of new changes ahead of us, all these changes dont come short of drama. Nights out always seem to be interesting. One wednesday night me and my housemate went to a houseparty in churchtown. We were looking forward to a good night out with all our friends from our hometown who were living in Churchtown as they go to UCD. The night looked to be promising as we were all having lots of fun but as we were all leaving the house to get the luas into harcourt street it all went wrong. A boy we didnt know very well was really drunk and got his bottle and smashed it through the back windscreen of my car, the glass flew everywhere and nobody knew what to do or where to look. He did it for no reason and caused 300 euro`s worth of damage. Myself and all my friends were really mad and had a very bad night to say the least. He paid for the damage and apoligised the next time i saw him.
That just showed me that college is never short of drama, there`s constantly new things happening, new places to go, drunkeness, a lot of fun but a few fights here and there along the way. I`ll look forward to see what the rest of the year has in store!

The Twilight saga: New moon
Last night i went to the cinema in Dun Laoghaire to see New moon, i greatly enjoyed the first twilight film so i had high expectations for the sequel. I found it very interesting and almost as good as the first. On Bella`s 18th birthday, Edward Cullen, the vampire she loves, and his family throw her a birthday party. While unwrapping a gift, she gets a paper cut, which causes Edward's adopted brother, Jasper, to be overwhelmed by her blood's scent and attempt to kill Bella. To protect her, Edward decides to end their relationship, and the Cullens move away from Forks. This leaves Bella heart-broken and depressed.
Throughout the film Bella then discoveres that thrill seeking activities allow her to "hear" edwards voice in her head. She continues doing crazy things such as jumping off cliffs into water, riding on fast motorcycles etc just to see him. Like any good romanitc film, in the end the two end up together after Belle undergoes a long journey to find him. I found New moon to be interesting to watch and im eagerly inticipating the next of the series to come out on film!
